NICHOLAS FLATMAN founded NFA in 2018 having been an associate at awarded architectural firms in both Sydney and Newcastle.  His professional experience covers a broad range of small and large scale residential, commercial, and heritage projects throughout NSW.

Nicholas graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Newcastle and furthered his interest in architecture by undertaking a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Architecture which was subsequently completed in 2019.  His achievements include prestigious accolades such as an Australian Government Research Training Scholarship and the esteemed NSW Architects Registration Board's Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship.

Nicholas maintained a close association with the University of Newcastle, where he shares his expertise through design tutoring and leads local and international courses. His architectural pursuits have taken him abroad for extensive periods to study exemplary works that continue to influence his practice.

BLAKE LEWIS joined NFA in 2025, having previously been mentored by Ed Lippmann in Sydney and then CKDS in Newcastle. He has experience in a diverse range of typologies including residential, multi-residential, commercial, educational, and adaptive reuse.

Blake completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Technology, Sydney, and graduated his Master of Architecture with Distinction from The University of Newcastle. He received recognition for his studies including an honourable mention in the competitive 2018 Steensen Varming Integration Prize.

During and following his studies Blake has a continued interest heritage projects and adaptive reuse. His catalogue of work studying and adapting heritage buildings included his Master’s Thesis which was nominated for the Graduate Medal in 2022.
